mallet locomotive
mallet locomotive
many years ago my dad built a 2-6-6-2 mallet locomotive, lettered for the great northern...It was sold to a man in utah, I seen one time it had been repainted black. Has anyone seen this engine, or know the name of the person who bought it
Re: mallet locomotive
Can you share more info about the locomotive's scale, gauge, or where built?
And was it a true Mallet or a simple articulated?
Those facts could help identify it to answer your question.

Re: mallet locomotive
I remember seeing a 2-6-6-2 down at mid-south one time during the mid 1990s, or sometime along there. I don't even remember if it was lettered or not, I just remember hearing that it was pretty new. Never saw it but the one time. Same locomotive, I would assume.
Re: mallet locomotive
yep, that is the same locomotive, my dad made one trip with it from Indiana down to midsouth...his brother, my uncle, was wanting to see it, so he drove up from Birmingham Alabama and met him there
Re: mallet locomotive
I believe Steve Flanders bought it. I met with him at a track in KC and he told me that he was heading up there to buy it. I don't know if he still has it? He sells a lot of stuff on Discover live steam. I think also owns S&S short lines? You might try looking him up.

Hopper Car
Here is a picture of the Mallet owned by Steve Flanders. Hopefully you'll be able to identify if it is indeed the one built by your dad. If it is, He did splendid work!

Re: mallet locomotive
That long cover over the extended piston rod has to be a pretty good identifying feature.
Re: mallet locomotive
Yeah, it was just a dummy....theres nothing running in it
Re: mallet locomotive
Does anyone have contact information for steve flanders ?...seems I.had his email ir phone number at one time?...but it eludes me
Re: mallet locomotive
Wonder if it has a true "Belpaire" firebox? Or, are the "shoulders" on the firebox dummied? This was a very distinctive feature on Great Northern locos.
