Hello Friends,
I am in search of drawings for the Uintah #20 0-6-2t. It will aid in the development of a very cool project I am working on to hopefully bring something new to the community.
The ideal scenario would be to have an erection drawing of the entire locomotive. However, the main dimensions I am searching for are:
- Wheelbase
- Driver Diameter
- Boiler Diameter
- Overall length
- Width
- Height
Any information on this locomotive along with the railroad itself is much appreciated. If anyone has a picture of the controls on the back-head from any of the Uintah locomotives, that would also be fantastic .

The website steamlocomotive.com is a good starting point for these engines. It has driver diameter (34”), driver wheelbase (7.25’), cylinder bore & stroke (13” x 18”) and other details.

The Henry Bender book has the Baldwin erecting card diagram. I do not know what is in the two-volume Rodger Polley book set.

The De Golyer library at SMU has an erecting diagram for a Uintah 0-6-2 built in 1905. I have no idea if it is the same engine or not. Might be worth a look.

The steamlocomotive.com site also listed Degolyer as a reference. I believe there were only two of these built, both in 1905.

Model RR Magazine Index says there are drawings in the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette Sept/Oct 1989 and Mar/Apr 1994 issues and surprisingly (to me anyway) Railroad Model Craftsman Nov 1953.

Yes the De Goyler library does have the drawings. Karel was nice enough to send me the information I needed.
Fender, yes there were only two built. #20 and #21 at the Uintah Railway. You can see ever so subtle differences between the two. And no, the numbering is not one of those differences .
To anyone interested, I am formulating the first post for the new build series. Super excited to share it with you guys. I think it will compliment the little forney build well and provide something new to the community. That’s the hope I have at least.

Ross Grant of Pioneer Valley Live Steamers scratch built a Uintah Mallet in 1" scale. I know its not what you are looking for but thought it was neat enough to post!

Minor correction: Unitah ran simple articulateds, not Mallets.
I've operated full-sized Mallets, thus my knowledge base.

Awesome! I am excited about this proposed project! #20 & 21 have been narrowed down to my favorite locomotives to model. I am pouring all over my Sweet Pea drawings & book as well as taking notes from many mentors on this site as well as articles from Kozo to start my first 7.5" gauge loco in 2.5" scale. I would prefer to build a model i am most interested in, but keep being very advised to stick with simpler tried & true designs for a first build, which I do believe is the best advice for a beginner. I now have access to a couple of other live steamers nearby, so I may soon be building cars & a speeder or critter diesel.
I don't really want to build several live steam locos, just one. If feasible, a version of #20 or 21 would be it!

Hello Nico,
I had a look in my photos of moving the La Carlotta Sugar Mill engines and found this. Perhaps it will help modeling the rear truck. The engine is a 3' gauge Baldwin 0-6-2. If you had really deep pockets it could serve as the basis for a full size kit bash.
