Pacific lead truck question

Post by 1201 »

I have aquired 4 heart shaped links to use in constucting the lead truck on my 1.5 scale 4-6-2,
I am looking for drawings of a truck built with these. Truck can be 2 or 4 wheel, as i am most interested in how the suspension is built. I can adapt to my design.
The links are 2.06 high, 1.12 wide, top pivot hole is .250, heart shape is .250 at bottom, .375 thick.
I have had these for several years and have no information on what engine they where for originally.
Thanks for any assistance.I would like to add a photo, but dont know how to size it.

I'm not sure if I'll be any help in posting this reply as I'm fairly new to the hobby, however your description of the links in question bring to mind the Swing Link design on the original LNER P2 (Drawing showcased about a quarter down the webpage here: https://www.p2steam.com/design-study/)
Hope I was able to help!

Here's are some pics of the front single-axle pony truck for my Mikado.
The pics are a little dark but you can zoom in for a better understanding of how the 4 heart links interface between the center pin structure and the lower truck frame.

The links I’m familiar with have the heart-shaped openings on the upper end of the link and the pivot bearing at the bottom. Also, the links on the left and right are parallel to each other, not canted.

Here's a drawing from the 1916 Locomotive Dictionary of the lead truck on a C&O 4-8-2, which may be useful to you.

Here's another drawing (for a 4-4-2) that shows the center bolster and other components.
