1" Atlantic and Pacific Boilers
To interrupt the current mass hysteria, here are some pictures of two 1" scale boilers we are finishing up.
One is for an Atlantic, the other a Pacific.

Not just my skills - my team!
Our weldor, Glenn Grasley, is one of the best!
John Trinklein, at Weber Steel, does the bending.

Marty
would you summarize the sequence for assembly/welding of the firebox?
such as: throat sheet to outer side sheets, then
back head to side sheets, then
mud ring, then
inner sides/crown sheet, then
inner tube sheet,then
top wrapper, then
weld to barrel
I am trying to glean this sequence fro your photos
thanks,
Jeff
BTW, have you guys ever TIG welded a copper boiler?
Also, how do you line up the front and rear tube sheets?

It would take a book to answer all your questions.
To answer your next to the last question first - yes, I have TIG-welded copper boilers.
The important thing is that you have the right alloy copper.
The most common, alloy 110, will crack almost immediately after welding.
As with all boiler work you need to know what the materials are.
Re: 1" Atlantic and Pacific Boilers
Thanks for posting these Marty, they look very familiar. It looks like the Atlantic has a belly blowdown. I don't know how common those are, the Billy Jones #2 has one but it's also a Vanderbilt firebox weirdo.
There was a thread a month or two ago on locating the top of the crown sheet. One way that I don't think was mentioned was using the bottom of the lowest through stay/tube. It's right there on the backhead for you! There's a little factor of safety there in that no one is going to put that right on top the crown and these pictures turned on that light bulb for me.

Here Glenn is welding a backhead. Here is Dave van Wormer of Weber Steel at the control panel of the plasma cutter. And here is John Trinklein of Weber Steel working on their 175 ton CNC press brake.Marty_Knox wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 12:19 pm Not just my skills - my team!
