Steam Boat Load and HOW!

Post by UnkaJesse »

Take a look at this boat load of cotton bales plus other items. The weight of the cotton alone (if the standard 500 pounders was in use then and I think it was) is over 2,300 tons!!! Now, that is what you call a deck full of cotton.

George, I bet they didn't try crossing any submerged sand bars on that trip! Mark Twain in his book "Life on the Mississippi" told about having to memorize the location of every sandbar and snag because when the river was up and running in the spring, those bars were hidden. Didn't have any Corps of Engineers dredging back then!

Unka(Can't remember where I live anymore much less where there might be sandbars hiding in "The Big Muddy")Jesse

Hey Unk, are you sure that isn't a Columbian drug boat making a run? Wow, what a street value!

Steve, from what I have read in a Dave Barry book, the drug runners drop the stuff out of airplanes instead of trying to run the mighty Mississippi with it.
