Doug:

So, are you saying this would be a good choice to use
under my 40' woodside reefer? I have a pair of MCC
heavy duty Bettys I was going to use. I bought them
as rough castings before I heard about Tom's trucks.

I also have two pair of Tom's standard Bettendorf trucks
but those are for the two 40' hoppers that are being
assembled by Tom's craftsmen as we speak.

Bill,

Bettendorf T section trucks would be very appropriate to use under a wood
sided refer, especially if it was PFE. U sectioned trucks were also used on
wood refers in later years or as replacement trucks, but I personally like the
T sectioned or Vulcan trucks which were also used. Being raised on the
west coast, I am more familiar with PFE.

If you ever get to the Cal. state muesum at Sac., go to the library and
look for the 1" scale model of the wood sided PFE reefer on display. It
was a project by PFE apprentices, is very nice, and has a very prototypical
set of T sectioned trucks on the car. Built in the 30's or 40's I heard.

FWIW, about 5 years ago I spotted a huge pair of T section trucks under
a UP wedge plow located in Spokane that was made out of a vanderbilt
tender. These were no 30 or 40 ton trucks like under a refer, they had to
be closer to 70 ton trucks. I had never seen a set so large.
