Proper drill size for MPT 3/16-40?

Post by DonF »

Hi:

I was looking over my drill/tap tables yesterday and realized that it doesn't list the proper drill size for model pipe thread 3/16-40.

Anyone know what it is? I have some piping to complete ASAP.

Thanks,

Don

just a guess, but try the same size recommended for a #10 as #10-40 and 3/16-40 model (straight) thread are the same size

Don: According to my wall chart you would use a #23 drill for a 3/16-40 MPT and a #20 for a ME 3/16-40. Hope this helps. Bill Cody

Hi,
According to Coles' catalogue (who make the MTP dies & taps), they say to use a #23 drill for the MTP 3/16-40 tap.
Hope this helps,
Jay
