I once had an old machinist tell me that if he had a dollar for every fellow who learned the basics of machine work on a Stuart 10 or S-50 that he could have retired 10 years ealier -- An exaggeration? I don't know. There has to be a good reason for a model company to stay in business that long.

for what it's worth none of us are ever too old to think we're smarter then we are or too young to learn to better. i've probably got less cash flow then patric and not much else other then this here computer, an early release of 14.0 that was given to me as more or less of a wedding present and an interest in all things that run on guideways, opperate in multiple and carry passingers or any two of the three and especially the closer to 'human scale' the better.

i'm don't know if i've ever seen this stewart s10 and or s50 you guys are talking about. i'm guessing it's some sort of a boiler and a piston and a flywheel and maybe some sort of valve gear?

i remember there used to be some sort of a stationary engine in the hobby shops 30 years ago or so ... that's the only picture that comes to mind but i'm gussing that isn't exactly it. i'm pretty sure i probably have seen one (or many) looking at the pictures from that names convention and maybe the cht site? and or elsewhere - just didn't know that's what it was - or at least that's what i'm guessing ... if somebody's got a url somewhere to relieve me of my ignorance ... just to satisfy my curiousity ... which seems to be the one thing i'm almost never short on ... ~;)

Right under the smileys there is a "make Post" selection -- select "using html" to enable the html

Then type in <img src="whatever the pic addy is"> for pictures (small ones)

-or-

type <a href="whatever the link addy is">What you want to call it</a> for a link

I don't know how to do it using the UBB stuff

The things are cleared (on a private base) and Patrik becomes the CD from me and can work the next years with this drawings. I try also to help him with mails (outside of the board) and direct advisings from her. The help on the board its normally very good, but some thing are a little bit different here (sources for material, metric and others) and better to explain (not workmanship and how to do) from her in Europe. I hope Patrik can find friends in his area with interesse in steam and try to help him to become more knowledgement.
Have Fun

You must not be crazy to play with steam, but it helps.

Good on yer Patrik! You remind me of me! I did the stationery engine thing for a start and had some good times smokin' up dad's shed. Once my mum knocked on the door with a bucket of water thinking we were all burned up in there! Anyway, look at it this way... you've made a boiler and a cylinder and a flywheel and a pump or something but yer can't ride it! Why not make a boiler, a cylinder or two and a couple of wheels you can ride... the only extra thing is a seat!

Seriously, something that moves is way more fun than watching the wheel go round. Choosing a simple loco is not easy. most of those "beginners" designs are devilish things to make. Without mentioning names, some of us reckon those "beginners" engines have broken more hearts than the fairer sex ever did! 80% of them lie abandoned, never to be touched again under the bench or in corners of once industrious little workshops.

You want 4 wheels, slide valves inside the frame, slip eccentric valve gear, and a boiler that is straight and square. No tapers, sloping backheads or narrow fireboxes. We have a design called "Blowfly" here in Australia. So good I made one just for fun. Drove it over 6000kms! Wore the wheels off it twice! If you drop me a private note I will try to get some info to you. You gotta track somewhere to play on?

anything small that moves under its own power without tearin up the countryside brings a smile to my heart. that's got to be one of the prettiest little steamers i've seen yet ... ~;)
