Bill's New Ride

Post by UnkaJesse »

Bill Cody out in Reno sent me this photo of his "new ride" which he bought used a couple of weeks ago. Bill was too modest to post a photo of the beautiful boat so I am sneaking this one in so all can see it. The all fiberglas hull with wood deck is 20 feet long and 7 feet wide. The boiler is an oil fired (Bill likes oil)Semple FT40 steaming a Semple #354 10 horse "V" engine with Stephenson link reverse pulling a 19 x 28" LH wheel. Setup is full condensing and the 22 gallons of fuel will give 7 hours of hard steaming. There is an onboard GPS system and even a steam heated coffee pot for all the comforts of home! The steering is hydraulic to the counterbalanced rudder. Lucky, lucky Bill!
See attachment.

OT: Sawmill pix for Jesse (and anyone interested)

Post by Bill_Gardei »

Jesse:

Here's some photos George took last year of Taylor Mill and
Ballard Pond...

Image

Gate is down -- no water on the wheel.

Taylor Mill in the fall. And Ballard Pond...

There is also a 1/8th scale model of the water wheel at the
Derry town hall. I'll get a picture of it next time I am there.
It is really cool.

Bill, Man,those are purty pictures. I wish I could talk Auntie Fern into us pulling the trailer up there for one of the run times. That is one big important looking water wheel. None of them that I know of down here are wide like that. There is a rather tall wheel at Norris Dam, but it is narrow.

For those who are wondering what Taylor Mill is, it is a "up and down" sawmill or more correctly, a "sash mill". Sash mills were the first type of mechanized mills and were a big improvement over the "pit saw" which was man powered.

Fred,

Good old Bill is right close to Lake Tahoe so you know where the boat is going to go as soon as he gets it all tuned up to suit himself.

Just in case he dosen't have a place to put in, he is more than welcome to dock that baby out my back door. This is a great bass lake also.
