MORE ON EBT

Post by Trainman4602 »

I have been doing more research on East Broad Top.

This passed weekend I made the trip out there to measure up the 2-8-2.

One thing I found out is that they had what is called a “Rushton” style trailing truck.

Does anyone have any information on this type of truck? Does anyone have drawings?

The trailing truck for the 90 ton Mikado offered by railroad warehouse is similar. I built one of these locomotives. The only difference is the springs straddle the frame on top of the wheel. I'm sure it can be modified. I might be able to dig up the prints on it if you're interested. I looked at the website www.livesteam.com for photos but it doesnt show the detail.

A further type of Rushton trailing truck, see patent:

It might be the type mentioned by jessebanning

Was chief Mech Engineer and later VP in charge of Engineering for Baldwin for many years, as well as serving on ASME Boiler and ASTM comittees in his lifetime.

If you are remotely ever considering building a Vauclain compound and do any research, you will see his name everywhere (next to Sam's) in the design of that type of compound.

I seem to remember that he also had something to do with railroad mounted artillery platforms that Baldwin made at one time.

Quite well-known in our area (among professional engineering and steam locomotive design circles).

Hi all
Thanks for the info on the Rushton trucks. Any more out there?

Dave J,
Thanks for the info and pictures. Needless to say I took a lot myself around 200 shots. I was able to measure up the valve gear and I think I have enough information to get started.

I did meet Rich Wickett. He claims to have Baldwin erection drawings but was vague about getting me a set.
