Disney American
Hello My Friends
Now that Tom's Nickel Plate Berkshire is finished up and he has taken it home, it's time to start the next project. This will be a Disney American. This loco was started years ago and some of the bits are already done. My client wants a highly detailed model faithful to the prototype. There will be some changes to the Disney design such as a wood cab and tender frame. I have a few little tricks to help out with wood doors and windows and will be posting them when those parts are being made. The tender will be brass and copper like the little 0-6-0. One interesting thing is that the driver castings, although beautiful are brass!! So some steel tires will be in order. The frame sides were mostly done but I found a few little boo boos. So here we go, a Disney American. Quite a change from a Nickel Plate Berkshire!

No axle box castings either. The drawings call out for brass castings, not an acceptable material for axle boxes. There was a nice chunk of aluminum bronze leaning against the wall. It was band sawed to rough size and then to the milling machine. A new band saw blade had to be used as the aluminum bronze just laughed at the old one. Also brand new end mills and freshly sharpened drills.

Jack:
Glad to see you are following the original Disney design using the axle box as it's own bearing and with a cellar...
Other than the cab and tender frame, I take it you will be keeping true to the Disney 173 as drawn by Eddie Sargent?
Also, are the castings original Disney? Or are the castings the ones the Carolwood Historical Society was selling a few years ago off the Disney patterns?
EDITED.... 04/04/2010 @1730 hrs CDT (Added question)
