I was visiting LA during the holidays in December 1984. I popped into LA Live Steam during a Sunday regular run day. California weather is perfect. Caught some video using Maxell Gold VHS tape with Panasonic professional portable video recorder. The tape is in perfect condition after all these years. Quality is OK, but back then it was good stuff. Hope you recognize some of the folks and equipment there. I had a great time, as I was a relative newbie to the hobby in '84. See it on Youtube:

Re: LA Live Steam 1984
Was that a shoulder mount camcorder or two piece with the recorder on a strap?
Is that Charlie's El Gobernador?
Interesting to see the old Suchville station/shed. The new one is much nicer.
There sure is a lot more shade on those steam bays now.

Harlock,
I bet LA Live steam has undergone at lot of changes since 25 years ago.
The camera that I had was a 2 pc. unit, camera and a shoulder slung VHS
recorder. Great "little" unit at the time. It sure beats lugging around
the old Sony porta pack B&W units of the mid 70's. Maxell gold VHS tape
was worth the extra money because there is no snow on the image. I don't
know about Charlie's stuff, as a matter of fact, the only LA folks I know
about are JBodenmann, who recently was at our Waushakum annual meet and
the late PJ Bresley who showed me around 25 years ago.

Wow! That brought back some memories! I could be one of those little kids riding the trains as 1984 was about the time my folks first took me up to see LALS. Needless to say I was hooked!
