Kozo Pennsy A-3 Tender Trucks in 1.5" / 7.5 gage

Post by powderhorn01 »

For those of you building the Trucks, BEWARE!!! The measurements for the bolster bars do not double up correctly, it will be short. The correct overall length is 11.0". You will have to adjust the other measurements to fit. Keep the measurement for the side bearings mounting holes the original spacing.

Thanks for spotting that, and thanks for also posting it in the errors and corrections thread of the DLS Kozo forums.

Your welcome.
I found out after I made them. A weeks worth of work down the tubes.
Any one want a set of archbar bolsters, that will fit about a 6-3/4" track.

Since you are doubling the SCALE, you are only doubling Kozo's 3 1/2" GAUGE. I hope you have not started your engine frame. It will have the same issue. Look at the back to back dimensions. Subtract 2x the 3/4 scale (3.281) from the 7.120 or whatever you prefer for 7 1/2 gauge. 2x 3/4" scale is .563 short of 7.120. Everything related to the locomotive/tender width is not a direct X2. Cab, smokebox, tender bed and tank, pilot, running boards, pilot beam. The only good is that Kozo shows a copper boiler that is 6 5/8 diameter, so a boiler of sch 40 6" pipe fits right in.

Kozo's plans for the engine show the frame elements with the correct widths, as well as the fire grate. Anything else that depends on the frame width needs to be re-calculated/redrawn. So far in my build I've found the following:

Axles
Tee
Tie Plate
Smokebox Saddle
Reverse Shaft
Arm Shaft
Ash Pan

Anything related to the boiler OD will need to be recalculated, as well as the cab, which was mentioned above.
