Steam Locomotive Registry

Post by pwcphoto »

I had nothing to do on Sunday afternoon and thought that I would add a Locomotive Registry to our club web site. It seems that people are always posting here looking for a particular locomotive from the past. Maybe this will make things a little easier.

Here is the link to my first attempt.

http://www.southerncalifornialivesteame ... gistry.asp

Would appreciate any input, what it is missing, any bugs, better ways to display stuff, etc....

Please feel free to post any locomotive information and photos related to that locomotive. It is a hierarchical type of layout with the initial locomotive added along with its photos, and then other related information and photos can be added to show how the locomotive has changed over time either with change of ownership, equipment, colors, railroads, etc... There is also a place for notes on each level. Photos can be added at each level related to that instance of the locomotives life.

Hoping it could become a nice resource if everyone gives a little input. When I get a little time I will finish the notification portion and the final gallery for it. Probably some time this week.

All critiques are welcome.

Nice site!
In addition to manufacturer, it would be nice to show who built or assembled the loco, assuming it wasn't rtr.

I added Builder so you can add a name or company or both, as well as scale and gauge and builders plate number.

Now just need to get people to populate it with real info. hint hint.

I like, very nice. :D I did find one bug, if you are on the second page and go to view the details of a loco and then return to the registry, it doesn't remember which page you were on. Not a big problem when the site is small, but when it gets bigger and it dumps you to the first page every time it might be annoying. :)

Just a thought. I dont know how much trouble it would be to modify your list. But I think that having to look through every entry would be very time comsuming.

I think that it would be nice, and save time searching if you could look up the loco. by class/type/wheel arrangement (ex. 2-8-0, 4-6-0, or Pacific, Berkshire).

Geo,

One of the things on my to do list is a complete search. Will also be able to order by date, engine number etc...

So far 14 locomotives listed. Will be interesting to watch the list grow.

John,

Don't know how I forgot that. I just added the various Shays, Heislers and Climaxes to the list.

I will update your listing to reflect it.

Thanks for giving it a try,

Phil
