The whistles Russ Steeves has on his Fitchburge Northen and his steam boat are just wonderful to listen to. I am sure it is not only the quality of the whistles and valves, but the operator also.

Does anyone know how the folks at Rizzoli and/or Darrell Klompmaker plumbed this whistle? It sounds phenomenal, in my opinion... AND, it's horizontally mounted!

The whistle valve is in the cab, and there is actually a drain port so that the whistle doesn't overblow. Overblowing is common if you have too much pressure and you need another vent to relieve some of that pressure. Whistle valve has a cord and a handle that comes down to the engineer's spot via pulley.

That, in my mind, is what a locomotive whistle should sound like.

Outstanding!
