Live Steam Memories - 1941

Post by tsph6500 »

70 years ago, folks were enjoying live steam on the CNR Recreational Grounds at Lachine, the former home of the Montreal Live Steamers. The engineer is Fred Jerome of Toronto (TSME) and the engine is probably his 4 Aces Timken. My late aunt, Willa Ratcliffe (nee. Leggett) is the second passenger from the right.

Great photo. Thanks for sharing. I hope that the photos I am taking now will somehow show differences 30 years from now. hard to tell how the hobby will continue to evolve. Back to small scales if gas becomes ridiculous? Even bigger? Who knows... coal, propane and diesel still available?

Why is it that eveyone in these old photos is so clean? I run for five minutes and I`m filthy.

It must be because "coal" was not considered a dirty fuel back then!

Maybe it was good coal or skill at firing, or both, . . . or maybe the picture was posed. ("OK Fred, lean over and reach line like you are running the engine . . . OK smile everyone!")
