Show me your eccentric straps

Post by crackerjackhoghead »

Just wondering what other peoples finished eccentric straps look like. I pulled out my Allen castings to machine and realized that I have two different pairs of castings. They both have the same part number cast on them but one set is real nice, doesn't need any cleanup and will require little machining to bring into spec. The other set is larger, crude and has gobs of flash to clean up and are clearly not from the same pattern. Maybe I'm being too picky but I'm not sure they are up to the standards that I think they should be.

here is what I made, all machined from solid. The straps have babbit poured in for bearing surfaces. After set up with the bolt in the adjustable slot, the other bolt holes where drilled to hold location.

Jeff, as far as finish is concerned, I'd only worry about the bearing surfaces. After you install them they become very invisible between the frames.

Bronze castings, Heavy Mikdao, machining in progress:

Steamin,
Who's castings are those? If mine looked like that, I'd be in good shape.

They are sold by Bob Pedersen -- Railroad Warehouse
"PART# D-2069-3"

Mine are the older one-piece casting
