Noooo No one has done that before :)
I have a good sized "scrap box" but it is not growing as fast as it once did

Or that first scratch on the new truck.

"Oh, well, now it's just another truck....."

Thank goodness we got THAT out of the way...

I'm trying to figure out what a BP table is. Only thing I can come up with is Bridge Port ?

Pam and others, nothing is as bad as 14 stitches to the thumb thanks to the Table Saw. Didn't lose it, but came close. Just a DUMB little mistake after 50 years +.

Pam, out of how MANY operations that you have completed on your Pumps project, ONE mistake is nothing to be ashamed of.

Correct. A Bridgeport mill, 42" (slightly dimpled) table.

Sorry to hear about the thumb. Certainly not preferred to dimpling a table!
My father was a carpenter. To help support the family, he built houses on the side, although primarily for friends only. Through the years, he removed the tip of the same finger three different times, each occurrence on his small jointer.

gentlemen,

thank you for all youir support and very kind words. I just so dislike ruining a beautiful casting. .....but as I am fond of saying...."onward McDuff"

I picked up the replacement cylinder and Jack B's lil test boiler. adorable lil gizmo....from david moore last night.

have had some silly issues to deal with the past couple days...but this evening we dig in once again and get hot and heavy on these things.

I am going to set the pump with the botched cylinder aside for now...seeing it was mine. and finish the others. now that my is is screwed back on str8....the remaining cylinders should go nicely.

6 tapped holes.....and 8 thru passages on this operation.

the 5 cylinders are done.....the sixth ...I will see how work goes and see if I can get it bored real uick after work sometime this week.....

in the mean time I sterted in on the steam chest....filed off casting burrs...etc.. fly cut the mounting face on all six. will trim up the ends next....ream the sleeve bore...then go about drilling and milling all the steam passages......all of these are shorties unlike the cylinder where some were over and inch deep.

one final photo for the weekend

OMG .
Amazing! I just didn't realize there were that many pieces involved! Also it's going to be a piece of " art" by itself - just another little jewel. Your engine is going to be amazing.
Pat yourself on the back and know there's people out there that admire your talent and sharing your progress.

Keep pixs coming!

Thanks
Bob

evening toonsters,

yesterday I face both ends of each steam chest and after work ran the .500" reamer thru the sleeve bore.

after 5 sets ups this evening the first steam chest is almost done. need to do a half diameter bore 1.100" deep for the main steam feed and counter bore the four mounting bolt holes.

and bob..I honestly did not realize there were this many parts either..... :(

photos of thisevenings festivities.....

onward,

Pamela

The color of the castings and the stringy chip in the photo make me wonder if the castings are aluminum bronze?

The castings are done in silicon bronze. I am not sure of the exact alloy number. Investment casting foundries like silicon bronze for its superior casting properties.
The machining properties of silicon bronze are less then optimal. Silicon bronze requires really sharp tools and correct tool cutting angles. The abrasive qualities of silicon bronze tend to take the sharp edge of of your tools fast.
