The Home Machinist!

Hi All,

I started to build a Sweet William last year, it's going to take me a long time because I don't have any workshop equipment apart from a few hand tools. I have the use of the workshop at my work but I run the risk of being grabbed by work to do work for them when I go there to do my own stuff on my days off, that and it's about 30 minutes round trip.

Anyway here's some photos off what I had done so far...

hey Jeffery, i'm building a SW also but making it look like a Kerr Stuart Wren. hope to have it finished by April. got to get rid of that baby puke green.

what boiler are you going to use? i have some CAD drawings for the marine style one made in steel if you are interested.

I would be very interested in the CAD file for the steel boiler, what size is the file?

the file is 116kb; not too big. it is drawn in Autocad LT98. i can convert it to DXF.

Hi All,

Had to work on my day off but there was no bosses around so I could sneak down to the engine shed workshop between driving trains and got some of the holes drilled in the Sweet William frame.

Hi All,

Had the day off work so went to work and spent almost all day in the workshop. Milled out the axlebox slots, this was only my 2nd go at milling and my fisrt go at milling steel. It went good, had a couple of small problems, the feeds on the table have a LOT of slack in them so you can only do very light cuts and the cutter fell out a couple of time but I figured out what was wrong and fixed it. Also got the frames partly bolted up.

Hi All,

Haven't down much building on the Sweet William but have made a lot of back round progress with things like building a work bench and getting some basic tools like vice, hacksaw, files etc. Anyway here's a few photos of the progress.
