He's got infinite speed control. Just tap the wire faster or slower.

I like the sparks coming out from under the wheels at about 1:38.

How about the switch being a loose piece of rail you move by hand.

I want to build one of those kick switches for my backyard rr. I have a photo of another similar type, that doesn't use a frog, but has a curved turnout. Let's see if I can attach a photo...
