I'm thinking about possibly building a Railroad Supply 2-8-0 ,but have a couple of questions that I hope someone can shed some light on for me.First off,is Railroad Supply a good company to do business with?Do they sell quality castings? How is the quality of their machinework? If I decide to build one of their locomotives,I plan on doing as much of the machinework myself. At this point,I will probably purchase a machined cylinder block section from them, unless I happened to have a more experienced machinist lookin over my shoulder, just to be sure I do it right! If anyone has built a 2-8-0 from Railroad Supply,I would greatly appreciate your sharing that experience with me!Any pictures of one completely built or during construction would really help me .Thank You!

I have had several transactions with RRSC, and it has always been a great experience. Sometimes it's hard to get a hold of them on the telephone, but they respond quickly to fax. I have not tried the paypal exchange yet. I think sending a Fax has been the easiest way for me to communicate with them, but I remember seeing a post from them about getting the online service working. I have a 2-6-0, and the castings I have received have always been high quality. Many of the castings on my mogul are the older aluminum castings, and I have been recently replacing them with the newer bronze castings.

When they started into the industry and I started on my CP-173, I thought their drawings were some of the best.

I have had very good luck with there machined parts . Mike is a busy person and some waiting comes with the parts. Still worth it and there pricing seems to be fair. I recommend them . Bob..."

My experiences with them are exactly as described.

Sometimes tough to contact, but once make, parts are just fine and no complaints.

Usually you can get a hold of Mike weekdays 6pm to 9pm except Tuesdays. And yes, everytime I visit, I have to leave my wallet at home. :D
