Uintah Railway locomotives
I am interested in building two of Uintah's locomotives, the 2-6-6-2T articulated and the 0-6-2T passenger engine. Has anyone built either or does anyone know of someone who has? I have some plans for the articulated but not adequate for construction and would like to have more complete plans if available. Ditto the passenger engine. Thanks for any help. Bruce

Ross Grant at PVLS built the 2-6-6-2 in 1" scale. He will have it running at the 60 th this year.

Ross Grant from the Pioneer Valley Live Steamers built a 1.5" scale version of the 2-6-6-2T in 4-3/4" gauge. It is propane fired and is a very nice engine. I believe there is a 2-1/2" scale version in the Salt Lake City area as well.

Yes. There was a 2.5" Uintah 2-6-6-2 that someone built and was running in Utah. Salt Lake City area I believe. That loco, was painted a greenish color, not black as I recall. I did have photos and video that I downloaded from various websites a few years back of that engine and would post them, but don't have a clue what I did with the CD I burned them onto.

Didn't Tom Miller build one years ago? I remember seeing one at LALS during a brotherhood meet?????

I remember reading somewhere that the specs on these engines (2-6-6-2T) called for a crownsheet slope of 7 1/2 degrees (to allow for grades of that degree). Baldwin was sure that this was a mistake, but it wasn't!

Paul Newton built three of them in varying scales, the last in 2.5" although actually scaled up a bit more. That one is now in Poland.
Paul's main point of reference was the book "Uintah Railway: The Gilsonite Route"...using general drawings in there plus photos. You can buy the book on Amazon.
Paul was just out here with me for three weeks for Train Mountain but is now back home in New Zealand.
If you're interested in a set of wheel and cylinder etc. castings he might be able to provide them, he may be doing a set for a friend of mine. Doing more at once would be cheaper.

Here are 3 photos of the 2.5 scale Uintah running at S&S shortline in Utah. about 2006. A friend built it. I will see if he still has any plans to share. Paul J

Prototype wise, the only blueprints are the Side Elevation and Cross Section Drawings for the #50 offered by Roger Goldmann. I know of three independent groups tracking down rumors of more drawings here in the states and abroad. I'm not aware of any more having turned up as of yet.
SMU's DeGolyer Library has the Side Elevation & Crossection Drawing for the #20 / #21.Ditto the passenger engine.
