Bill Eckert does a wonderful (and nearly thankless) job with our website. He can only post photos that are sent to him, however. Nothing new sent, nothing new to be seen on the website. I am as much to blame as anyone else, will send some recent photos to Bill very soon. And....THANKS BILL! :)

To answer a couple other questions, yes, the new yard plan is progressing. The big holdup was/is a tunnel through a small ridge near the top of the new loop. Lots and lots of earth moving was required, most of it is done with just a bit more where the actual tunnel will be. Also, an access road needed to be installed to allow the concrete trucks to reach the tunnel. Seeing how the area can be quite wet at times, even during dry spells such as this past summer, it took many dozens of tons of large stones to be hauled in and placed where they will do the most good when the concrete trucks arrive. We expect that to happen before the snow flies this year.

Yes indeed, Tom Rhodes is building a D&SL Mallet. Add 'frames' to that list of major parts described above.

Why not do what Los Angeles Live Steamers did for their tunnels? They used some 6 foot diameter concrete drain pipe. Dug a trench, laid the pipe, poured some end caps, then buried it. Instant tunnel!

The pipe approach was considered. The cost of the pipe is the issue, about the same as concrete in our area. When the costs were compared it was almost a wash. Longevity tipped the scale in the concrete direction. I dare say over the years we had at least a dozen tunnel concepts. You name it, we probably considered it.

During the deliberations Bill Banta had a great idea that made 'pipe' very appealing: build a 'wood tunnel' inside the pipe with inexpensive material allowing it to look like a tunnel.

The cost of the road prep really was not part of the equation since we had decided long ago we needed an emergency access road into this newer area anyway.

Neat video Jim. :) I loved the music too. Nice little production.

A question about the trains pictured in the video. Are they going the 5 miles per hour on the main line and 2 miles per hour over bridges suggested by the club rules?

I have never seen any video from this club other than in the yard area.
