Bitter Creek Western President's Day Meet

Post by Harlock »

I think it's been about three brazillion years since I've posted meet photos (a lot of them have been going to Live Steam Magazine, see Nov/Dec cover article on Train mountain) but the previous weekend I packed up the MEG train and headed on over to the Bitter Creek Western, my favorite railroad, for the President's Day meet. Turnout was very good owing to fantastic weather (in the 70s on Saturday!) and I didn't capture nearly everyone who was there since I was running my own train but I got some good highlights.

Jim Sabin and I double headed our MEG locomotives in a hack-fest worthy of the books. We took fresh cut logs from the bottom of the property up the 3% mountain division where the woodpile is located at the top. Older trees are regularly trimmed on the property giving railroaders revenue freight when they need to be taken to the top. Much more interesting than running in circles. We also took my display logs on my new log cars with us each time. On Sunday I cleared the backlog of people I had been promising I'd let run the engine now that it's dialed in a bit more.

All in all a great weekend with a good turnout and a good group of folks. Just as we drove away on Monday the sprinkles started coming down and I outran the storm in time to put everything away. The next day snow and rain got dumped all over South-Central California. Good timing!

As always, the complete album is here http://www.mikemassee.com/gallery/v/liv ... Rpres2013/ and below are some highlights.

Another look at that mining crew train. No it's not tippy. It's very heavy at the bottom.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

I always love looking through the pictures on their website and love seeing all the narrow gauge locomotives.

Don't think we will ever be able to make the 40 hour or so trip down there though.

Thank's Mike for the photos.

I had viewed the Bitter Creek website and saw some photos their.

And I'm allways happy to see my friends on the photos.
Sad, that I cannot be their with them.

Do you have any more pictures of that Frisco engine (mountain?) at the steaming bays? It looks really nice!

I really like the lines you did with that meg. Yet, not really a saddle tanker fan myself, but what ever makes you happy I am fine with.

Stuie, I believe that is Ken Reiter with his Dad's (the late Art Reiter) 2-8-2. There are pictures of it on the web if you google around, and you are right, it IS really nice, as was Art. It's good to see Ken out with the engine.
