THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE
I just finished the last part needed to complete the K4. It is the water and oil separator for the air supply.
I used some hunks of scrap brass and a short piece of 1 ¼ drain pipe to make it.
The hardest piece to make was the flange and the cap. I made them both together and then saw cut them apart.
I don’t have a chuck for the rotary table so I used the super spacer to make the bolt lugs.
I did this by indexing it around eight times in different positions to make the lugs. Drilled the bolt holes and saw cut it apart. A little file work and a run thru the sand blaster and soldered it together.
I’ll paint it with DGLE and it’s done.

Re: THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE
Thanks
The locomotive has been running for 9 years. I'm just now getting around to finishing some small details that I didn't get to finish.

Dave,
Now that the pieces are done, have you thought about making castings for sale?
Beautiful work.

Hi David
I must compliment you on your fine work. I have seen you K4s in person and photos can never do it justice. A good model locomotive has many little bits of jewelry like this. The more you look the more you see!
Very Nice!

Re: THE LAST PIECE OF THE PUZZLE
The last piece. Today I mounted the air Water & Oil separator. This the last piece on the locomotive.
Last week I degreased the engine and prepared it for a coat of Dark Green Locomotive Enamel, AKA Brunswick Green.
Now I have to move on to the tender. Some details to make such as the cutting lever brackets and rear tender steps. The rear steps are a bit tricky I’ll post something on them when I start.

Looks right at home all snug in there. Is this a functional separator, or just a detail piece?
