A weekend of steam and rain

Post by Harlock »

Went to a small invitational meet at Portola Valley & Alpine, my "club away from home" when I'm visiting the Bay Area. This month we invited Bitter Creek Western and Joshua Tree regulars to come on up.

Which means it ended up being the narrow gauge regulars, Peter Moseley with Ron Schmidt's #278, The Salinas boys with RGS #41, Bill Bolller with #268 bumblebee and Jimmy Booth of P-B-L with his D&RGW #223. All four of the prototype engines survive today, btw.

On Saturday it started pouring rain at about 9am, and didn't much let up till 2:30, but we got going again after that and ran into the evening after having an on-site BBQ dinner. Mid-day we hid out in the clubhouse for a while and had lunch, the burgers being cooked under an umbrella.

I brought a camera instead of a train and got some throttle time on other people's engines once the weather had cleared.

Aaand night photos were requested, so I obliged. Jimmy's #223 and a group shot.

Highly unlikely that there was ever an oil fuel tank on a siding on narrow gauge D&RGW but we'll let it pass. :)

Some more random photos, see descriptions. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful photos as usual, Mike. Thanks for sharing them. 2.5" scale narrow gauge is my ultimate. :)
