Loctite 680

Post by rspringer »

How and what will remove the half hard residue from Loctite 680? Some of it ran down the side of my parts and is just a sticky residue on the side.

I read in another forum that MEK will remove loctite.

Thanks Finger nail polish remover worked on the uncured and a paint scraper worked on the harder parts. It was not fully set up.

On another board I participate on (out of the UK) there have recently been reports of failures of otherwise perfectly prepared Loctite joints and the suspected culprit is counterfeit Loctitie.

Don't know what is worse - fire hazard from ACETONE or breathing hazard from MEK.

I used to use carbon tetrachloride for this purpose....but then maybe that explains a lot of things....

Acetone (nail polish removes is acetone) will remove...just be careful where you apply it...

get it into the joint and you have problems.

Best to scrape it off.
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

I agree about avoiding solvents. If it is uncured, perhaps apply some primer or accelerant to cure, then scrape the excess off mechanically. That way there is no danger to the joint.
