Just some simple pump shields in the front. Not really simple at all . Multiple angles and brackets. Tool box was easy though. Making front latchs required some itty bitty machine work.
And NO, tool box is welded shut and does not open. But everybody usually comes around to the front and says " does this open ? " and tries to lift the lid.

This was a idea Pam Weiss suggested when I was building my Northern. Run the whistle piping under the jacket. That way you can run 3/8" copper to get a lots of steam right down to the whistle without having an oversized pipe visable on the outside. Mike has a BIG Rizzoli whistle to put on this beast so this will give lots of steam to it.

Whistle steam pipe under the jacket will also keep it warm, helping to eliminate the water "gurgle" that you might get when you first pull the string.

Rough castings and where do ya start to somewhat "true" this chunk of brass ? Sand dome and nothing is straight. I got this idea. Drill 2 wholes in the top and screw it to chuck of cold roll. Stick that in the vise and using my large boring bar arc the correct circumference. Next silver solder the 2 hole that held it and then polish everything. Am I boring anyone here ????

I use Ron and Barb's American Model engineering lubricators. I learned from my first engine Hudson 9100 that if you are not careful it is easy to lose the prime in these lubricators.
These are great lubricators and , you will....... lose the prime at some point. So ya make it real easy to detach them from the loco . 2 10-32 screws and 3/16 unions and it's off and off to the bench in the steaming bay. There you prime them and put them back on Mr Choo Choo and remember NOT to forget to put steam oil in after 3-4 miles of having fun ! Also, the oil delivery is adjustable.
Too much oil will slime down the stack and that ain't pretty. And we're into pretty. There is slide link with an adjustable stop and a link that keeps both lubricator arms tied together. This way you can adjust the clicks of the cog with the revolution of the engine.

This week I tackled the brake stand. The casting I got from Mike Venezia and everything else was fabricated. The cams under the stand ride against Clippard regulating valves to adjust air to the driver brakes and the train brakes. Also, I make the stand removable from the top to easily get to the cams if and when they need to be adjusted.
