The Home Machinist!

This is for my tender buddies. I layed her on her side and now I'll attach all the plumbing and electrical lines on her underside. The trick is to be able to get to everything easily in the field if necessary. In the top view are the stainless steel water tank, the electrical power and control unit, and finally the coal bunker.

A nice weekkend was had by all, I trust. Me...I never get out of the shop. My wife feeds me by passing a tray of food under the shop door !! Welp, for you inspection I finishd the plumbing on this baby. Next I'll get my guys to turn it right side up and lower it on the trucks. Wooppeee !!

I forgot to post the last picture of the reverser mounted. Next step is to take the locomotive all apart and paint everything not already painted and the stick her back together.

Final instalation; works pretty good too !

I've always liked a clean looking tender connection between engine and tender. I'm using 1/4" and 5/16" Rectus fittings quick disconnects. They are available from Little Engines. The clamps are a differnt matter. Most folks use hose clamps. And I think it's because there isn't anything else to be had that might look a little better. Hense , a suggestion. These are called 2 eared hose clamps. They are small and when painted are hard to see.The clamps and the crimping tool are available from McMaster Carr. The clamps can be removed by sanding off one ear.

A nice new locomotive needs a nice new set of tool. Shovel for coal, a poker for the fire and a grate removal tool.

I've seen different way builders have spaced boiler jackets. If there are no "steps" in jackets from front to back the length of the locomotive I use High temp tape. Well, it's thick tape from McMaster Carr. You can get it in many sizes. Apply it at the ends of each section of wrapper and glue insulation between again using high tempature glue.
