On my Workbench
On my Workbench
Here's a glimpse of what I've been up to lately . . . your basic little boiler job. This is a trial assembly, at this point nothing is finally fixed (screwed, riveted, pinned, etc) because there is quite a bit of fitting yet to do and then it all has to come apart for de-burring, relieving, countersinking, etc. The vertical light-colored thing you see on the crown sheet is a block of plywood which was used to maintain alignment while the inner and outer firebox assemblies were pinned to each other.
For reference, the barrel diameter is 6.125".

Re: On my Workbench
That looks really good, Harry. Have you done much to the Tich lately? I'd like to hear an update on that, and see what all you lack getting it running, what the roadblocks are, etc...
Re: On my Workbench
I can't even imagine doing one of those with my experience with silver soldering.
Nice job Harry.

Re: On my Workbench
Scott, the roadblocks are that I have had a couple of ongoing projects on deadlines, this boiler being one of those, which take precedent over personal projects. Work on the TICH will resume once those obligations are met.Pontiacguy1 wrote:Have you done much to the Tich lately?
Fred, this will indeed be a challenging silver-soldering job, not in the least because of its assembled weight, so the soldering will be done in sub-assemblies. The final heat will be done with it sitting on the floor because at that point it will be too heavy for me to handle easily.

I thought I would take this opportunity to share what's on my work bench. Actually this is the only time it will most likely look like this.
