Chain for air brake linkage.

Post by RCW » Sat Jul 26, 2014 2:35 pm

Question for folks using air brakes:

What chain do you use in your brake linkages, and where did you get it?

I am assuming that you mean the chain that winds around the Brake Staff, and connects to the air cylinder? I just found some small link chain at a DIY Hardware store. I model in 2-1/2" scale, and am happy with a "looks about right" approach.

Check out clock weight chain on line, especially grandfather clock weight chain.
Those weights are pretty heavy and some filled with lead.
If this is not just for looks, you may have to silver solder the links.

the brake wheel came with the Rio Grande Assoc. hopper.
most of the other brake detail parts including the chain are from Precision Steel Car Co.
