engine to transmission adapters

Post by stpat@reagan.com »

I have been thinking about making my own adapter plate for an engine swap. Does anyone know of blueprints /software which shows existing engine and various and transmission milling information? I am a complete newcomer to the machine world so any information or guidance is appreciated. Thanks, Patrick

Thanks for the replies, I am thinking about the following swap; 1987 Ford F250 4X4, IH 6.9 diesel with a manual 5 spd transmission (ZF5), this will be the doner vehicle, I have a 1990 Cummins 5.9 12Valve engine to replace the IH6.9. Motor mounts are readily available, the long pole in the tent is the adapter from the Cummins to the ZF5. The Cummins previously had a Dodge auto transmission and that adapter seems to not be not a terribly complicated piece of machine work, but I may be wrong as I have very limited experience with machining things, but I'll learn. From the replies here it appears that the information I'm looking for is probably available, I will just have to try to locate it and see if this is feasable or in fact cost effective. Thanks once again, Patrick

Do check Advance Adapters. They have a large selection but your application might be outside their range. I have used them several times in the past with success.

Even if they do not have the mounting adapter, they might have the splined portion if you need that. I find making the housing adapter is a whole lot easier that doing a credible job on splines.
