thoughts on makerbot replicator plus

Post by ALCOSTEAM »

not that I was even looking for one but I run across an all but new Makerbot replicator + that I could pick up pretty reasonable.

Just wanting to get some thoughts on it, are they decent machines, pro's, con's, run away, etc.
Has anyone on the group used or own one ?

thanks

They're pretty decent but, when makerbot started with the extruder that could sense a nozzle jam, well I wouldn't buy one.
There's alot of printers out there and my personal choice is one that can easily be repaired and modified. Some manufacturers parts are proprietary in design and can not be swapped with another mfg.
For an example the e3d hot end is $60.-$80 bucks and replacement nozzles are $4-$8. Where the folgerteck hot end is $15.00 for the whole assembly and nozzles are <$2.
the nozzle alone for my flashforge is $32.00

And a new hot end assemble for the makerbot iirc is like $300.00
Or something crazy like that, I heard from some forum at one time.

I cannot say "no" strongly enough. Stay away from anything Makerbot.

Consider the Prusa Mk2 or Creality Ender 3/CR10 as an entry level machine with a solid user base.

Good luck.

"Makerbot" - Noun. - Full of expensive proprietary crud you can't buy anywhere else and will spend money and time waiting for when the inevitable failure occurs
