bridgeport boss 5 retrofit

Post by hwboivin3 »

Years ago I bought this panel to retrofit my boss 5 bridgeport. I have had no problems with it. Recently I purchased another boss 5 and before I attempt to duplicate this panel I wanted to see if anyone here makes panels or would consider making one. Or at a minimum , when/if I get workin on this , is there anyone who could help me out on tips.

Thanks,

Harry

Harry,

We make industrial control panels. Send me some pictures and electrical drawings (if you have any) and we can give you a quote.

Thanks for the replies. I am swamped with work. I'm hoping to upload some pictures and a list of the parts I have this weekend. Then, I'll post a whole bunch of questions!

Here's a quick reply. This is the board that I am going to attempt to duplicate. I'll have a list of components a.s.a.p.

Ok,

Now that the holidays are over, I'll be starting to build another one of these. Any tips or criticisms are welcome as I know absolutely nothing of anything electrical.

1st question...... Should I solder the wire connections or is crimping reliable ?

Are you saying you have built one before or is this your first one? Crimping is fine if you use a good crimp tool. If you have good electrical/basic electronics skills you can do it. But it can be intimidating and even overwhelming. If you don't have the skills, then either find someone to help you or buy a turnkey retrofit kit. Are you using the original Boss Steppers?

Even with moderate skills, it takes time.
Good luck with your project.

This is my first attempt at building a panel. I bought one yrs ago but they are no longer available. I am using the original step motors. If you know of a turn key kit for the step motors under 2k , please let me know! I bought mine for $1375.
and the estimate total cost of the one I'm attempting to build is around 1k.

If you have the skill set, you can assemble it yourself. I like CNC4PC.com. Everything you need is right there.

Always costs more than you think in nickel and dime stuff!

Just a quick update. A friend and I have spent every other Saturday for the last month or so working on two panels.

The first one has been tested and works! Testing the 2nd panel today.

If there is interest, I'll post all info and diagrams to build one.

There's usually not much activity on this section so I didn't want to waste time if no one is interested.

By all means, at least post pictures of your progress and what has been working for you. I have been at it at least once a day since last August, it takes time to do a good job and do it right.
