I notice that the builder is using "bridges" between the crown sheet and the boiler barrel/top of boiler. Is this to eliminate the need for staybolts? Could one get away with this on 1" scale locomotives?

Just curious, as I'll be reaching a point that I can start developing the boiler for my 2-8-0 soon!

Hi What's the chances I could get a copy of the cad model of this boiler I am busy modeling a B1 LNER loco in solidworks and I am battling. The model may help me get mine right

Ah the chain drive Bullied! What was their service record? Did they have maintenance issues? Looks like most of the internals were bathed in oil. Does your friends Bullied have the same chain drive or is it simplified? Thank you for the very nice forum posting!

It is chain driven as per the prototype but he uses a total loss oil system rather than a bath. It runs very well, goes like the wind and has run at Waushakum LS in 2011 and its home track in Montreal. The build time was 2½ years.

So if one was to make a larger version of this boiler, would the thickness increase as well with the size if the pressure remains the same?

You need to define LARGER before you can get a meaningful answer....
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Logically the answer would be 'yes' but: the tensil strenght remains the same so increased pressure (for a given material) would require increased material thickness proportinate to increased pressure.

A baloon will burst when the material thicknes cannot sustain the pressure or the tensile strength of the baloon material.
