You'll notice that the Steam Dome is missing..... Have no fear! Dad got a casting from someone and it needed a little shave and cut before looking proper...

Dad did the slicing and then I gave it a new lid with some Alum Plate and the TIG welder. A little true up in the Lathe and then Dad smeared it with Love Sauce and buffed it out real nice!

Check it out:

So this is what transpired during a weekend rebuild project? Not bad...not bad at'all. Love Sauce? Never 'eard of it. Is that some kind of Bondo or JB Weld? Glad to see another steamer revived and rolling the rails. 30 minutes to raise a head of steam with propane...nice going. There's enough heat there to roast a marshmellow or two. Good luck and have fun! Carl B.

Mark and JB,Thanks for the nice comments on the video. My partner on this project (Dale) did it. Not only does he do fast work ( faster than a speeding locomotive) he is very good at making video's which he has done during and after his builds. His only complaint on this one was he was worn out chasing me around our track. LOL My only complaint was that due to the low fog that morning I got soaking wet from the exhaust blowing the water out of the redwood trees that dwarf our facility. Yesterday brought on more progress on the Hudson. Since we have no issues to speak of we started hanging on the cake iceing. A Dummy Air Pump and tank, Turbo Generator. Installed the steam dome cover Rob welded for me , Installed turrent housing next to cab, Running boards are now on. Superscale injector is installed and piped. Today we will install ladder on back of tender ,finish wiring from tender to engine,(For headlight) attach water filler hatch to top of tender tank and I'm sure there will be more on our punch list. Look for next post with new photo's. Have a great day Bob...............

Hey Carl,

Not quite a weekend.... ;)

Dad can chime in with the start date but I think they are nearing about 2 months so far. The chassis really needed a ton of work and the engine was down to just the bare frame for several weeks. I just don't think any of us took pictures!

And yes... Love Sauce is JB Weld. Works every time!

Cheers,

Robert M.

Lettering will go on today and then on Saturday we will give this engine it's final run before offering it for sale. Next project will be to finish a Consolidation that I purchased from Mike Venezia a few years ago. I will have my son post the pictures of it soon.

Made or 2nd test run today. Everything went perfect. Need to finish up steps and install and touch up paint. Dale posted a video on U Tube It is under GGLS Hudson It's about 5 minutes long
He was following around the track on my speeder. It makes squeaky noises on the steel rail not the Hudson . Ran for about 2 hrs total. Will make a final report on fuel consumption after I get the tanks refilled. We used a seperate tank to start engine .

I was curious...I know you said the original tender was junk...but do you still have the shell of it...and if so...how long is it?
