If you have used a torch much at all, you probably know how to make and use a straight edge. I make a 4 1/2" straight edge with a fence so i can cut angle and channel off square and clean. I personally have never before, seen anyone else use a fence on a straight edge. but they are so handy i would hate to have to do without one now. The picture shows one that i have used for over 35 years now. It is hard to believe but all the metal is stainless steel. It is best to make the guide bar, at least, out of stainless steel as it is easier to clean up. The wooden handle on top is a must,(things get hot) Your left hand rests on that wood knob and your, gloved, left thumb guides the side of the torch as the torch tip slides along the edge. The fence is bolted on so it can be replaced if dropped. well hope some welder can use this to advantage.
