HF5980 3 in 1 machine Tailstock Dial Indicator question

Post by BentTooner »

Hi, all

The calibrated dial indicator on my HF5980 tail stock does not move to re-set to zero. The other dial indicators move so I can set then to zero when I need to.

I took it apart and it has a slot and key and is intentionally fixed.

I'm wondering why? I can see that you can manually slide the tailstock up to the work piece but I don't always get the tail stock exactly where I want it when I do that so I often turn the handle a bit to bring the tail stock into the work area a bit more after I lock it down. At that point, I've lost the zero setting.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Is it binding up? I had an issue with mine and it was the keyway in the tailstock pulling back binding the dial and the screw up also.
