I'm not so sure gtxkid is diving into the CNC end of the pool, at least not right away.
I thought it was sort of an aside when he mentioned the above.

gtx, let us know your plans so we can better control, a, er, guide you.

Yes i agree safety first.
I am 52 years old and lucky to have had year in machine shop/ long time ago.

I have had mostly a lot of shop experience over the years so hopefully that will help.
I have a good selection of dial indicators and mic's.
Prety savy on the computer but do not know CAD.
CAD is my week point but this 2d is become comfortable to me, i have not done anything other than on computer.
I like the idea of books, and internet, i have been watching video's on youTube.

I am going to find that book you suggest Turret Mill Operation

I understand climbing and as a good reminder have made a mental not of it.

If it's CNC, you would want to climb mill as long as it has proper ball screws and is not just a converted Acme screw knee mill. It's also better for cutter wear.

It looks to have an air IN / OUT Switch mounted on it with black unit on top, i assume it is an air type chuck for holding bits in place.
Ordered Book $35.96 free shipping from:

GTX,
Smart move. I think you'll see what I mean once you go thru that book. There are a lot of items that may not be all that obvious before you read it. For learning on? Then maybe a cheap set of endmills would be the best to start out with. After that, There is no substitute for quality cutting tools. In the long run they are worth the money. LOL, You've got far larger cojones than I have jumping in at the deep end of CNC. No guts, No glory.

But in the area your going into, I'd also highly reccomend buying all the back issues that are avalible from Village Press for their Digital Machinist magazine. A lot isn't and won't be needed by yourself. But there's a huge amount that is.

Pete
