Re: Lackawanna Hudson
Another Hudson! You have carved out quite a niche for yourself superdetailing completed chassis. You get to do the fun parts. Can't wait to see the progress photos

Re: Lackawanna Hudson
Hi Jack,
Although I live mere minutes from the former Lackawanna mainline (and even have a DL&W route map hanging in my office), I don't think I've ever seen a picture of the Hudsons that they had. Their Poconos (aka 4-8-4s) pretty much stole the show. As memory serves, there was only one batch of five engines that they received very late in the steam era.
In any event, do you happen to have a prototype picture you could post to show us all what this locomotive will look like?
Sincerely,
Adam

Re: Lackawanna Hudson
They were ordered from ALCO in 1937 and Delivered in 38 they replaced 5 Pacifics numbered from 1151 to 1155. They were serious power, and could and would loaf along at 80 + when the Nickle Plates Trains were late comming into Buffalo, they were mainly used on the Lackawanna Limited between Scranton and Buffalo and would also at times handle the Merchants and others between Scranto and Hoboken
They were equiped with Standard HT Stokers and operated at 245 PSI, had 81.5 SQ feet of grate surface and 52,800 LBS Tractive effort with 26 x 30 cylinders and were about 340 tons (engine and tender)in working order
I believe Andy Barberra got to run them during his tenure with the Lackawanna
they were some engine

Re: Lackawanna Hudson
here are a scan of the side and front elevations of the DL&W Hudson and the Q4 Poconos
not a lot of major differance between the 2 cab and driver size and of course tractive effort but the 5 Hudsons were very big powerful engines
