Post by jpfalt »

we had a fella in our town long ago who strapped himself under the chassis of a truck in an effort to diagnose a sound. He actually stayed there while someone drove it down the road. The driveshaft caught his clothing and well, need I say more. Terrible accident, tragedy, but very stupid mistake. You can actually find this online still under Alamo, MI. It really did happen.

While working out of town, and nothing on TV, I found "1000 ways to die"
Now I watch it all the time.
It is reenactment of stupid things people have done, and died.

I have heard someone from the UK talk about this issue--of people committing suicide by jumping in front of subway trains. The trains apparently travel slightly faster during the morning and evening rush hours, and so those are the most popular time to do it.

The station is shut down for ~3 hours to do everything, and buses are routed in to get everyone else there to the next-nearest rail station. Being late to work for this reason is basically an accepted excuse in many jobs (as long as it really happened).

OT My last full time job (before 9/11) We were allowed to be late 3 times in 2 years. On the 4th time you were fired. They said " That is why we give you 3 times, in case something comes up."
