Word to the wise.
Finger nail polish remover used to be lacquer thinner, till
some one decided it was dangerous.
There was a plumber who used to wash his hands every day with it.
To remove the ABS and PVC glue from them. It' absorbed and goes straight to the liver. He didn't get a needed organ donation.
Did anyone find out whats in ATF????

Just about everything is required to have an Material Safety Data Sheet that describes what it is and the potential hazards. A simple search for MSDS at a manufacturer's web site should turn them up. There is a Chevron example for ATF at http://www.lakeland.edu/AboutUs/MSDS/PD ... 0Fluid.pdf

Are we talking nail polish it self or nail polish remover? Because nail polish remover is acetone not lacquer thinner. Nail polish is lacquer based paint.

Right on Kevin. I have used Hard-as-nails clear for touchups on cars to seal door edges and nicks for rust. Because it is clear it shades as the base color, yet gives back the rust protection for small chips.

All kinds of tricks with nail polish. it dries quick and is hard/brittle and that is the secret
Many number drills are hard to distinguish from fraction or metric drills
and it is hard to read the shanks .
Paint red polish in the gullets at the bottom of the drill next to the shank.
Now, when you pick up a loose drill, and it has red in an area that does not get wiped off, you know it's a number drill.
( You could use yellow or white for metric drills etc.)
If you use end mills in collets, dab a bit of red at the juncture point. When the spindle is running, and if the end mill pulls out ( Loss of depth control !) you will clearly see a line of metal reflected on the running end mill shank.
The same is true when mounting delicate parts in a milling vise. If the dab of polish is broken between it and the jaws, the Part moved !
Taking complex parts apart ? paint joints with a dab of nail polish so reassembly is easier .
End mill/drills get dull, paint the cutting end red and you will know not to use it next time.
This is really handy with double ended end mills.
When sharpened, wipe off the polish
just a few hints

Actually nail polish remover is a combination of ethyl acetate and isopropyl alcohol. I don't think either one is that hazardous. I would think it would take many many years to cause liver failure unless he drank it also.
