Vanderbuilt Tender plans, or drawings

Post by powderhorn01 »

Would anyone know where I could get good plans, or drawings, even some good pics of a Vanderbuilt Tender. I have been looking on the web, but not getting any results worth anything.

Specific prototype? There were many variations. Easier to suggest sources if we know what your looking for.

Try the historical societies for the railroads who's locomotives used them. The C&O and NYC Historical Societies among them.

The NYCHS has drawing sets for their various tender classes available on CD's.

The Union Pacific also used Vanderbuilt tenders The UPHS has the drawings for them, but they are not yet available for purchase.

SP had a boatload of vanderbilt tenders, so the CSRRM library would be a good place to look.
I got an erection drawing for a 70-C-9 tender, often put behind their 0-6-0s. A bit faded but legible.

Google "Locomotive Dictionary 1909" and you'll find a digitized book by Google. On page 373 there is a drawing of a Vanderbilt tender.
