Completed My Allen 10 Wheeler

Here is a pic of completed locomotive. It was built ofve a 8 or 9 year period, with many of lifes interuptions along the way. Waiting for spring for its first firing.

The subjects of this forum and the machining sections have been invaluable in completing this project.

It is a thing of beauty. They have a simple look to them and I think that is what I find so appealing. All the Allen engines share some specific traits (if built to print using all the castings) which relates them, but they become unique with the finishing touches like paint color and leaving certain peices in their raw metal. Because there is no absolute specific protoype, the rivet counters are left speechless as well. Great job. Can't wait to see the whole Engine and tender on the rails!

Don't see the problem Bill. I've had couches in two shops.

I looked at it the other way, engine in the living room.

After 9 years, Maybe that's where she belongs. Always did like ten wheelers.

That's beautiful Rob, and don't feel bad about 8-9 years, that's fast by my standards (28 years and counting...). You have to be really looking forward to spring! It must be so satisfying to be done.

As for the engine in the living room, it reminds me of the late John Parker. I was amazed he was married to a non-machinist and had a Bridgeport in his family room, and he simply said "it was here before she was".
