Thanks Justin,
Yes it does feel good to finally get to work on this engine. :D

I didn't get much of anything done this week because of scheduling conflicts but I did manage to steal a little time while SWMBO ran to the store, to trim off some excess material from the frames cross brace.

While checking the full size plans against my frame, I realized that my frame is about an inch short. So a quick and dirty remedy is to make the front frame spreader a bit longer than the LE one I was going to use.

I decided to make it out of solid 1" x 5" flat bar. The extra weight over the pilot would be beneficial.
First step was to square up the sides then machine it down to 4 5/8".

Then we contoured the front and welded on a flat bar to mount the pilot beam to.

Hello Chooch, how have you been?

Finished up on the nose piece today. I removed some excess material from the underside to create a pocket. This pocket will allow easier access to the pilot beam bolts later on.

Here is the nose piece installed. I know what you are thinking; "That sticks out too far". No, in reality the frame rails are too short for the locomotive I am building. This is why I made the longer nose piece. Once all the appliances are installed it should not be noticeable... unless you look for it.

While Peter is working on the drivers, I have shifted focus to the front truck. The center and heart rocker assembly is standard LE design but the side frames had to be lengthened. Here is a LE side frame for size comparison. After installing the truck assembly we noticed some clearance issues with the longer pilot truck and 36" pilot wheels. The frame has been disassembled and some of the material in the area directly behind the cylinders will be removed on the water jet table. Sorry I didn't get any photo of that.

I tried to modify a photo to illustrate the areas of the frame to be removed. Since we will have the frames on the water jet table, Bob Dean suggested we remove a section in front of the lead driver so we can install a spring equalization adjuster there.
