Repinng turret on a CNC lathe

Post by Machwright »

Have an idea of how to do it. But taper pins to housings are oval and someone in the past has redrilled relocation holes in ring gear. Any thoughts out there.

Not knowing what you have for a machine.......Generally location pins are used to set the turret face in alignment. The locking bolts are cinched down and the pins are removed. That way in a crash the turret can slip and not damage anything other than alignment. If these locating holes are damaged from leaving the pins in, than it is not uncommon to abandon them and drill & ream new ones after the turret is trammed in. You really don't need the pins. They just make realignment faster.
A Coaxial indicator makes tramming pretty easy.
