Hi Greg,

Your pic of your 'D' bit 9 degrees tapered reamer looks to be considerably greater in degrees than 9. What is the OD and what length is the taper?

I have not found any engraving bits of small enough taper but I do use them sometimes to remove some of the metal before using my injector reamers. The engraving bits have a tendency to chatter because one side has a different taper to the other in effect providing rake on the cutting edge.

Cheers,
Julian

Hi,Julian, yre wright, the angle is steeper than 9 degrees I made a technical error.it came out at 14degrees,put it down to being too late at night, the shank size is 1/4inch,
That one is now in the bin, remade two (the correct angle this time) last night,
Thanks for the heads up on the deburs,

If you are reading the numbers on the top slide angle graduations, or, compound, make sure you understand the difference between the angle on the side of what you are machining, and "included angle". Also, make sure your tool is exactly on center height, or, the surface you machine will not be a true taper.

The problem I had was I just miss read the increments on the compound slide, and the tooling is dead center,
