Anyone building Oahu RR #85?

Post by Greg_Lewis »

I'm cleaning out my files and I have a print of #85 at Travel Town in LA in 1978. If you're building this, pm me your snail mail addy and I'll send it to you, rather than toss it into the waste bin. I'll toss in the neg, too, if I can find it.

I'll better that print.

How about a large number of the real Alco blueprints for that specific locomotive? There are other OR&L sets coming as well. These will be scan files on DVD, available sometime soon. If you are interested put your below and wait. And wait, and wait. Ill get you the details when they are available.

Is that the one that I rode behind as a kid in the 1960's?

A lovely engine and a lovely Railway!
Plans of Oahu RR #85, drawn by Jim Dunlop, could be found in the Narrow Gauge and Short Line Gazette, Nov/Dec 1988, page 16.
Very good Informations and pictures of the Railway could be found in the book: Hawaiian Railway Album WWII Photographs.

Cheers!

Kimball:

Yes, that engine ran east from Travel Town about a quarter mile or so, and then backed up to it's starting point. I remember talking to the engine crew as it was nearing it's last runs there. They said it needed some new staybolts and that the cost was prohibitive at the time. It ran along what is now Zoo Drive, up to about the Riverside Drive bridge. Crystal Springs Drive ran to the south side of LALS, against the hillside, past what is now the loading area.

Yes, I would also be interested in a set of drawings. I would be forwarding on the Hawaii Railway Society on Oahu. They are actively attempting to preserve what is left of Oahu railroading. Thanks very much for offering to do this.
