Backhead/firedoor joint

Post by jlakes85 »

Hi all,

I've determined that my firedoor ring isn't completely flush with the back head and therefore I have a but of an air gap between the the firedoor frame and backhead during mock-up. Are there any hi temp sealers that would work to fill this gap? I thought about ultra copper, but just want to check that it will stand up to this service. Thanks again.

you can also use woven fiberglass, like we use on furnace doors. Stick it on with high-temp RTV (good for 3000 F)
Once everything is in place (including the door), you can trim the excess off with an Xacto knife
Too many things going on to bother listing them.

Sounds good. Would either the RTV adhesive or furnace cement have the required strength to use them completely in lieu of threaded mounting studs?

How much of a gap are we talking about here? .005" or 1/8"? At what point would a gap be "too much" Didn't the prototype fire doors have small holes in them?
