The Latest Lineup at Ridge Boiler

Post by Marty_Knox »

We have been working on three boilers to deliver this weekend. With one boiler sitting on a display stand, and another being hydro tested, I said 'Let's move the Camelback boiler over and get a picture of all three."
Here they are - the one being hydroed is a Ralroad Supply Mogul, the one in the middle is for a CNJ Camelback, and the one on the display stand is the PRR G5.

cool...shame you don't have anything to do..

As a matter of personal interest (any maybe to others).

I see that none of these boiler have superheater flues.

As a "stick you thumb in the air guesstimate" - what % of the boilers you build have superheater flues...??

1% - 3, out of 300.
Well, maybe 2% - I just remembered 2 more with superheater flues.

Wow, that's a surprise. Seems it would be closer to 50% - if for no other reason than for small boiler efficiency's sake.

I would venture to say most live steamers don't care much about efficiency. They just want a locomotive that looks good, runs good, and sounds good.

I asked the question for the obvious reasons...to see what hornet's nest could be stirred up and what REALLY is needed to run a solid, simple, low maintenance steamer

Marty...that IS an impressive line up. Good work!

It's a shame we will most likely never see those boiler mounted to their frames, dressed out and lined up side-by-side under steam at some track. In the meantime, bet you can't wait to regain that open space in the shop! Nice job. Carl B.

Ditto the other's comments. Do you have an idea of the wheel arrangement for the CNJ Camelback?
